I went an visited with my Pops in the hospital last night, never a good time, just a little unsettling.

He got the Malaria on my parents trip to Belize, which was in late January, I guess it can hide in your system for up to a year. I think it was really unlucky because my parents religiously took thier anti-Malaria meds. There were only like 1300 cases in the US in the 2002, and I think only half of those were people that took the meds.

The hospital was a little inept when it came to getting him his antibiotics, we had heard that he was getting some IV, but they didn't have what they needed at Scripps so they had to get them from another hospital, then they finally showed up in pill form (apparently at around 3, found out later) he didn't get them until about 7:30, when the doctor was going home stopped in to check on him and asked if he got his pills, when he didn't the doc stormed off and returned like 5 minutes later with them.

We'll see how today goes...

They have the internet on computers now?
Apparently so, however I packed up my monitor, which had been on the fritz for a good month now and sent it back to get fixed, so I am now computerless at home for an unspecified amount of time. I think though I might be able to borrow an old monitor from work just so I can keep up with this blog... and other stuff, I guess.

A pretty standard weekend, I guess... Saturday I watched the beginning of the NFL draft, this will require its own post later, but Eryn did a good job expressing many of my beliefs on his blog. Then I cleaned out my car, shipped off my monitor, tried again unsuccessfully to unload those stupid rims. I followed that up with a man-date with Eryn, dinner, video games, and a movie (Hellboy) which was not as good as I had hoped it would be, after reading some very positive reviews, but still worthwhile. I unlike my friend Mick generally enjoy any movie I go see, with one notable exception... The Big Hit.

Sunday, Sara's parents were in town so we spent most of the day with them... had dinner at Brockton Villa which was fine for me, but as it was Sunday night of the weekend of the La Jolla half marathon they were out of most of thier seafood, which pretty much broke Sara's heart, so she was pretty bummed. But we had a chance to walk along the little park from the cove to childrens cove, which is always nice when it is warm the skies are clear.

In netflix news, I am loving it. Most recently I got the first disk of Curb Your Enthusiasm, which contained 6 episodes, which I just ate up. Every episode was not only funny overall, but without exception had at least one seen that actually made me laugh out loud. I may be the last one on the boat for this one but if you liked Seinfeld this is definitely worth your time. I had read or heard somewhere that after seeing some of the CYE episodes, that it was proof that Larry David was clearly the person most responsible for the success of Seinfeld, I was skeptical, but I am really coming around. I can't wait to get the last couple of episodes, although I am a little saddened by the fact that there are only 4 more for me to watch before waiting for the next season to come out on DVD.

Copycat There was some discussion on another blog about having little tags (notably song quotes) attached to each post. I think I'll experiment with titling my post with Simpsons quotes, or maybe other quotes too.

I'll try and go back and change some old posts... just for practice.

Mick don't copy this idea!

Hey Big Spender!... Dig this blender! Another weekend in the books...

When last we spoke I was prepping for the big garage sale... that has now since occurred and was a semi success. We were kind of cut short as about 11:30 it got cold windy and started raining, which brought the sale to a screeching halt. We sold off just over $100 worth of stuff, so that just about covered what I feel my time was worth moving stuff over there and selling stuff, there are still a couple of "big ticket" items that need to be disposed of, a working microwave, a recliner that is in very good shape, and a set of tires and rims that would fit a honda civic... if you know of anyone who would want these post it up and you can have them, otherwise I need to try and get rid of them in other ways... goodwill etc. The rest of Satur-day I just relaxed at home.

Saturday night Sara and I hit up Claim Jumper to use up an old gift cert I won at Nate's bachelor party a good 2 years ago, then came home and watched a few Sopranos episodes courtesy of netflix.

Sunday... morning soccer, afternoon golf with Adam, a perfect SD weather day... things hardly get better than that.

Now already back at work...

The two sweetest words in the English language... De Fault Well it's Friday night and the weekend's here...

To recap the rest of the week Wednesday we had our first hoops game of the year and scored a win... by default as the other team could not field a full squad. We played some pick up hoops for a little over an hour and got some good exercise, so that was nice... Also no knee pain after two nights of exercise back to back, another good sign...

This weekend I have big plans of selling off a bunch of stuff from our house. The block my parents live on is having a big garage sale so hopefully there should be a lot of buyers lurking for some crap cause we have a lot of it to sell. See the place I live has been occupied for about 7 years with a rotating crew of residents. I moved in a couple of years ago. The best part is that the rent has hardly kept up with actual rent costs in SD, so I get a good deal and we now have only 3 people living in a 4 bedroom apartment so we have a lot of room. The downside is that as people have moved out they have all left behind some stuff, so now I get to sell it all off and reap the profits, but it means I will need to do some work this weekend, boo that, but if I earn some scratch it could end up a blessing.

Also the results came in from my golf tourney a couple of weeks back and I earned a solid $75 so props to me. That will probably buy me one golf shirt at the overpriced TP golf shop, but what the heck. There is some saying about beggers and choosers looking in the mouths of horses for gifts but I can't recall it at the moment.

Hmmm... there was something I was thinking about blogging about but forgot it also... I'll try and remember so I can make this blog about more than just things I did, but also a look into my inner soul, sounds like fun eh?

Are you ready for some SOCCER! Well last night we had our first soccer game of the season, it was a win but we generally played poorly, it might have been because we only had one sub, nobody had any touch with the ball, and we seemed very winded.

Knee update... no pain at all, which is good but confusing. I think that if I exercise for more than an hour and really tire myself out then it starts to hurt. Indoor soccer is just intense exercise that gets me out of breath but not really where my muscles get overtired. When my knee does hurt it is very localized on the outside of my right knee when I bend my leg at all, going down inclines is particularly awkward and painful. It is even painful if I push on the location of the pain. Doc Mick?

Also yesterday I signed up for Netflix, I get my 30 free trial, but it is one of those unless you tell us we'll just start billing you, so I am pretty much just signed up. I think it should be a pretty sweet gig. I am mostly interested in watching stuff that was on HBO... Sopranos, Curb your Enthusiasm, Gary Shandling Show, Band of Brothers (which I heard from Diana, will be on the History channel now) but hopefully I can use it to help me get, and keep track of all the old movies I have wanted to see.

Last night I watched a documentary called Winged Migration that came out last year and was pretty successful if I recall. It was really cool just some phenomenal footage of all different birds flying. I will try and watch the "making of" but I think it was made by people flying ultrlights, gliders with little engines, right into these formations of birds. I mean the footage is basically you right next to these birds. Just really interesting viewing and it is only 89 minutes or so.

Well it has been a week since I last posted, far too long, so lets start by recapping what I can recall...

First last week at work I finished up the latest and final report for a project that I have basically been working on since I started where I work, so that was a big relief to finally have that removed from hanging over my head.

I took Friday off, since I had a day off that I needed to take it worked out well, since a couple guys who I play hoops with were having a little mini golf tourney at Mt Woodson... I played mediocre, as is my recent trend. I am thinking about going to the group clinic at the driving range I usually visit to see if I can get some pointers. It is like $15 and includes balls so it is only like $6 more than I would spend on a bucket anyway. Although I am a little afraid that the advice may just screw me up, I think I'll try it anyway.

Friday night I went over the Papa Rostons to hang out with an ailing Eron, that was a good time, watched some Freeks and Geeks on DVD, his knee surgery which was a little weird, and played some soccer on playstation which was a good time.

Saturday was a nice lazy day and I was happy to have it. After getting home late on Friday night it was great to sleep in, I don't think I have just slept until I couldn't sleep anymore in probably 2 months, not that I am complaining too much as I usually sleep until 8:30 during the week, and 9:30 on Sundays, as I need to be at soccer at 10. Saturdays are variable but a lot of times I'll wake up early (5:30-6) to go golf so that is a good waking up early. Anywhoo I slept until about 10:30 then stayed in bed watching the Masters coverage from Friday that lasted until the Saturday Masters coverage started, so after getting some lunch I settled back on the couch to read the paper watch some golf and just chill.

Saturday night I went out with Sara to dinner at Epizote, which was really good, then we met some of her freinds for some drinks in La Jolla. We had a good time even though some of her friends' freinds decided it was time to get wasted to the point that they began sharing there intimate feelings of being alcoholics and other personal issues, me and two other guys (Kevin and Jaime) decided that 9 holes of Golden Tee was infinitely better than hearing these inner demons, we were right.

Sunday... soccer in the morning, was a good time, although my knee started hurting again... I may need some advice from Doc Mick about what tendonitis feels like, I am starting to get a little worried about it. I then went back to Mt Woodson for some more golf, just 9 holes this time with Kevin and Jaime, as I had to pick up Sara for Easter dinner at my parents, where beforehand we started watching my tape of the Masters from Sunday, which turned out to be the best golf I have ever seen on TV, it was really exciting, even those not golf savvy enjoyed it, at least that is what I have heard. After dinner I did my taxes, always a good time.

Monday night Sara and I rented 21 grams I thought it was pretty good. The movie is full of flashbacks and forwards of three different stories that eventually become intertwined, so it takes a little while to start making much sense, and although that kind of filmaking is hardly original now it still worked pretty well, the acting was very good but was no surprise with the three main peeps being Sean Penn, Benitio Del Toro, and Naomi Watts (The Gift, Mulholland Drive, etc.).

Now it is Tuesday and my soccer team starts a new season tonight so we'll see how that goes, we dropped down to a lower league after going winless last session, the previous season we were in the league we will play in tonight and went undefeated, but we have some new players now and last season was pretty rough injury wise. Hopefully we will have some more competitive games, and by that I mean games that are well played that we win.

Well that's all for now...

Hmm didn't work, I'll try again

post with a link here

Sweet got it, who knew the help would be so... well, helpful?

Last night was the NCAA championship game... and despite it being an extremely boring game some good did come of it, as UConn winning allowed me to pass up my Pop's in his office pool, but it still left us in 1st and 2nd, giving me a whopping $45 return on my investment but that did cover all my other pool entries, which is nice... It was also pretty cool to come in one-two, but no surprise since I provided the background info for his picks.

I got home early today as I needed to drop some stuff off for copying for work on my way home... getting home while it was still light just felt good. I am torn between trying to adjust my schedule to work early and go home early but I also love my sleep and hate waking up early for work, waking up early for fun stuff that is another story.

On a freinds blog there was some talk about about dreams, I had said that I often have bizarre dreams that I thought to myself that I would never forget only to promptly forget them... Sure enough like two nights later I had some weird dream and I did manage to remember it, although that may be because I hardly slept afterward... My dream wasn't particularly interesting except for the people that were in it. I was at work but my supervisor was a grown up version of a kid I knew in grade school back in Cincy. The kid, Jeffery, had some kind of affliction that basically he was destin to die before long, and I knew him for only maybe 2 years before he passed when I was in 3rd grade. Strange in that I hadn't thought about him for seemingly forever then have a dream with him in it. Another person who was in the dream was some girl who I hardly knew from grade school in SD, her name was Lisa something, she was just working in my office but strange that she would be there.

I want to try and add in a link in my post so I will. I have the Padres game on and they are wearing thier new "sand" colored road uniforms, I had initially thought they would be pretty cool, but now I don't know, they look a little too yellow for my taste.

I wonder how that link will work, otherwise I'll have to ask some blooger types how to link with a word I choose to a site.

It is the end of another weekend... my blog is finally up and running so here is a quick recap of what was going on...

It was a pretty quiet weekend as the Adman and Eron went out of town see thier blogs for details...

I was in the Men's club Presidents Cup at TP this weekend, that entailed me to rounds on Saturday (North) and Sunday (South). It was a true tournament so every stroke counts, miss a two footer it counts... no gimmies, this cost me a couple of strokes... it also made the play almost excrutiatingly slow, easily five hour rounds both days. However the weather was perfect so it wasn't bad to be stuck outside enjoying the ocean views and sunshine although I did end up taking in a bit too much of the sun mostly on my neck and surprisingly my lower forearms. Anyway I played some pretty mediocre golf the aforementioned missed putts, a few uncharacteristically poor chips and I ended up with a 90 on the North which got adjusted down to a 73. The tourney is broken down into 4 flights of golfers based on handicaps, I was in the highest flight I figured that my 90 would put me well back, however after looking at the scores (we were the last group so everyone else had thier scores posted when we finished) I was right in it. There were a lot of net scores in the low 70's, I thought there would be a lot under 70, but no dice. After seeing that I figured if I played well on Sunday and didn't try to do to much I could score about the same and let the South beat up everyone as I knew it would. So I was thinking that I would lay up short on holes when I didn't have good shots into greens, unlike the North where you can just blast it at the green and have a decent shot at getting up and down the South can really put some hurt on you with deep bunkers and tricky greens. This worked for the first couple of holes when I had two decent putts for par and ended up tapping in for bogey, then the par 3, 3rd... It was playing long 195 yards into a pretty strong breeze. I tried a 4-iron and just shanked it left into the canyon after a drop I had a 50 yard chip from a tight downhill lie, I chipped long my ball bounced on the green and then just kept on going, the greens were just so firm I couldn't believe it, it trickled off and OB... eventually I chipped and putted my way to a 7 and figured my day was probably sunk, but I figured that everyone was probably in for a bad hole or two, I turned out to be right. As the rest of the round wore on I was playing very mediocre again, I hardly ever felt like I was saving myself any shots, just missed a couple of putts, etc and I ended up with a 95, respectable for not playing well. After we were finished looking at the scores that were posted I was in about fifth in the flight out of 40, so I was pretty pleased with that, I guess they give out gift certificate money to the top 25% of the flight so I should end up getting something back which should be cool.

The clocks changed last night so it is pretty late even though it doesn't feel like it... I better get to bed so I can wake up tomorrow... Although it was awesome for it to stay light late, perhaps that will set up some golf at TP after work soon... Good night blog...

Well I wrote this up initially planning on starting off my blog with it but getting it all set up proved difficult so it is a little delayed:

These events transpired some weeks back...

Adam and I hit up Sycuan for a Sunday morning tourney.

I caught a couple of cards early, which gave me some time to not worry about getting blinded out. One hand I had a pair of 10's so it wasn't unlikely that I would win that hand, another time the guy next to me made a good read that after a flop of 2-4-Q, and then something like a 6 then maybe a 9, I didn't have a Q, he ended up having pocket 7's and payed me nicely to see my pocket K's. I think the real bonus was out of a blind where the pot wasn't raised I was in with 2-6, and two 2's came on the flop, that gave me another good sized pot.

Then I got moved to another table, I was moved to table 1, and I didn't think of it at the time but I think this really helped me out, in a previous tourney at Barona I had played well at my first table won a bunch of chips then my table was broken up, I was moved, the blinds then increased right before they came around to me, after I had only seen 4 hands, then I was quickly moved after the blinds had passed me, only to get moved to another table where the blinds were coming up on me again, this process had cut my nice stack in half and left me needing to make a move quickly.

So this time I was moved to table 1, so I wouldn't have to move again, which removed the chance of this kind of rapid blinding.

Once at this table I quickly took two pots, once I had Q-J offsuit, the flop came with 3 hearts, one being the K, my Q was also hearts so if another heart hit I was looking pretty good, it did and I won a nice pot when I was called all the way down. I think the very next hand was folded to me. At this point I had a really good stack of chips. Then my cards went pretty cold, and I was folding everything, this went on for a couple of rounds including getting raised out of seeing flops from the blinds, a couple of the more talkative players at the table one lady who had some freaky eyes looking in perpendicular directions in particular were talking a little trash to me at this point saying they were going to raise my blind to get me out. After the blinds were increasing my money was slowly going down but I still was looking OK, then I got A-Q suited I raised and only this lady called, she was short on chips, so after I bumped her out when a Q hit on the flop, I was still treading water, but it was nice to see her go. Then came the hand that saved my tournament, I had K-10 suited I think, after calling a raise pre-flop, I was down to 3 chips. The flop had a J-9 and something low. One guy bet, I figured that this was it I would need to call and prey for a Q to make a straight. One other guy called and I think it put him all in to do so. We all flipped over our cards and both guys had Q-10, before I knew what was happening and could figure out what everybody had the dealer had flipped over the next two cards (both low and of no help to anyone) and it turned out my K high won the pot which turned out to be huge. Now in the overall scheme I was looking really good I had a good stack and the number of tables had dwindled down to 2 or 3 and there were 3 short stacks at my table, and probably at the other tables as well. Then I cinched up hoping I could just survive to the final table. I couldn't help myself when I got a couple of low pocket pairs and paid to see the flop but didn't catch so quickly got away from the hands even though it made me look like a weak player I wasn't interested in keeping appearances, just keeping alive. In hindsight both plays were pretty poor but I had enough chips to give it a shot. After not too long we were down to ten players and then quickly everyone was shaking hands and running off because we were at a break I had no clue what was going on really so I stuck around and then after the break I had a bunch of chips in my hand and was ready to get out of there.

Now I can't wait to get back there again, we'll have to keep an eye on the tournament schedules...
